She so petty. She got more shade than a palm tree.
Shade and Petty
I get that as humans we have a range of emotion. We are all unique and I can appreciate that. But what I don't get is why some people are so proud to be petty and throwers of shade. It's not just the ladies either, men are getting right in line with it too. We have little people watching us. It's easy to get caught up in the current trends. Sometimes I have to check myself, especially when I'm with my friends. I am in a place where I want to make sure I am setting an example for myself, my girls, and my clients.
Isn't being shady not a good thing? If you're shady that means you can't be trusted, right? But now the best form of entertainment is to throw shade and be petty. I talked about how being petty really wasn't a good look, but really what I am seeing are people being rude under the disguise of petty or shade and people are eating it up.
Don't get me wrong I know there are times when someone gets out of pocket and they need a good checking, but just to fuel the cycle of negativity and hate, that I don't get. Sometimes there is a well placed pun in the midst of it all, like the BET Awards ad. That was a great promotional move, and they got everyone talking.
On extreme levels it can border bullying. I've seen it in person and across social media…these aren't even kids, these are adults. Many people thrive off of drama and negativity. This is why so many fight videos are circulating around, where no one steps in to try to stop the fight. So what are the children thinking? If we think that petty and shade are cute, is that why teens think it's okay to jump a girl in the bathroom, resulting in her death?
I'm just saying we are living in a day where wrong is right and right is wrong. We have generations of youth looking to us for knowledge guidance and support. But we too busy watching drama, feeding off of it, and being petty to notice. We have enough people who want us, especially Black Women to feel insignificant and minor. So why do we do it to each other?
Isaiah 5:20 (KJV)
Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!
When petty means of little to no importance and you claim that attribute, there is someone nodding in agreement. Is that what you want to put out there to the rest of the world? What do you think about being petty and throwing shade? Are you here for it, does it entertain you, or are you like no thanks?
